During his medical practice in Nigeria, Elvis was profoundly moved by the plight of his patients, especially the underprivileged, who struggled to access essential medical care. Witnessing the devastating impact of inaccurate or inaccessible diagnostics, he was driven by a deep empathy to make a change.
Elvis' unwavering commitment to creating accessible healthcare solutions led him to leave his medical career and pursue a Master's in Biomedical Engineering at Flinders University in Australia. His thesis focused on designing a low-cost malaria diagnostic device that could provide lab-grade results in resource-poor settings. His vision was to equip healthcare providers in underserved regions with affordable, accurate diagnostic tools, a vision that continues to inspire and guide Biomicrology today.
After graduating from his studies, he collaborated with his friend David, a machine learning expert. Together, Biomicrology was born to develop further and bring to market devices like Biochrome—an AI-powered, point-of-care device for malaria diagnosis. This innovative device delivers accurate results within minutes, enabling immediate and precise treatment. Biochrome’s portability and affordability will make it ideal for healthcare providers in rural clinics and field hospitals, reducing the burden of malaria in endemic regions.
As Elvis says, “Nothing changes more than knowing someone else is smiling because of your actions. And if we don’t do that, what exactly are we in this world for?”.
Biomicrology was born out of this ethos, striving to transform healthcare delivery in resource-poor regions, one diagnosis at a time.
